Linda N. Winter
A shareholder since January 1, 1995, Linda Winter concentrates in all aspects of employee benefits law. Along with her partners, she represents more than 40 Taft-Hartley and public trust funds, advising trustees and other fiduciaries on the requirements and changes in applicable laws and regulations affecting them. Ms. Winter is well versed in issues arising under ERISA, HIPAA, the Internal Revenue Code, the Affordable Care Act, Pension Protection Act, and many other federal and state legislative requirements impacting employee benefit plans. She regularly addresses regulatory compliance issues with the DOL, the IRS, and CMS. She helps fiduciaries identify issues and proactively assists them in avoiding problems.
Prior to joining the law firm, Ms. Winter served as a litigation attorney with the U.S. Department of Labor’s National Office of the Solicitor, Plan Benefits Security Division. During that time, she prosecuted several enforcement actions under ERISA in a variety of federal jurisdictions including the Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit in New York. Additionally, she was involved in developing regulations and DOL advisory opinions under ERISA. Ms. Winter received her J.D. degree (1982) and B.A. degree in English and History (1979) magna cum laude from Marquette University, Milwaukee. Following law school, she served two years as a judicial law clerk for the U.S. District Court, Puerto Rico. Ms. Winter is a member of the Missouri, Wisconsin and District of Columbia Bar Associations; and is a member and speaker with the International Foundation of Employee Benefit Plans.
